[DISCLAIMER: the following entry consists of the writer's personal thoughts only. NO OFFENCE IS MEANT so if you take offence, then its your stupid problem.]
don't you think singapore is becoming a decadent society? i'll give you a few examples and you can decide for yourselves. ("decadence" according to the oxford advanced learner's dictionary: decadence (derogatory): (a state or behaviour that shows) a fall to a lower level in morals, art, literature etc especially after a period at a high level)[okay so maybe not arts and stuff, but in other things such as behaviour.]
what i'm going to write seriously reminds me of an argumentative essay/exposition. oh well, good practice for the exposition test on monday i guess.
firstly, have you noticed how every person of the same gender looks the same nowadays? if you were to look at girls on the mrt for example, you'd find that she's got her own personal style, but then you realise that every other girl there has the exact same style! what a miraculous coincidence! (okay i admit i do dress like that sometimes too, but its more for convenience and comfort than anything else.)
secondly, do you notice how our manners have deteriorated? again, i shall give you an mrt example. i was on the mrt just now on the way home, and there was this couple with two children, about 4 and 5 years. the father was playing with the girl, who was emitting shrill shrieks that had the whole car looking at them, yet the adoring father was seemingly oblivious to the irritated faces of the passengers. he must have been thinking "hah i bet everyone is staring us us cos my girl is so cute! yay look at the fun we're having!" -.- moron.
another thing. people just walki straight into you nowadays, and when they bump into you, they either just walk right on like blocks of wood (though blocks of wood can't exactly walk.), or they tsk at you as if its your fault for bumping into them when you were actually trying to avoid bumping into them in the first place. like hello, it was your fault in the first place, and if you don't possess what i like to call spatial awareness, then its your loss, not mine. i have recently taken to walking straight at poeple to see if they will avoid me. it becomes a battle of wills of sorts, but then to clarify, i only do this occassionaly. i know its rude, but hey! i'm singaporean, remember? :D
and now, i know the question revolving in your head is "WHY are we like this?" i'll tell you even if you're not wondering.
just one example since i have to go soon.
many teachers in schools simply ignore students who give them any kind of problems. they immediately condem these children instead of explaining matters to them so they will not do it again. i mean, what are teachers for if not to shape the future owners of singapore right?
and i can't thini anymore and i have to practice on the piano soi apologise for the lack of elaboration, but i assume you've got the idea.
someone save us! sugar we're going down!
